I'm sorry, I've had wine.
Ok, a bit of a slightly drunken train of thought thing now. I've just been prompted to remember what gigs I've been to in my eventful life. I realise how rubbish my memory is. I was asked for my favourites and I've remembered a couple but I'm sure there must be some really great ones I've forgotten thanks to my merlot-addled mind. So now I'm just trying to think of exactly which bands/artistes I've been to see. Here goes;
First one was Prince at Maine Rd Stadium in 1990? Or was it 1991? Memorable because it was my first. Not that he was bad or anything it was just that he only did an hour I think. I seem to remember my brother commenting on it.
Second one was Fleetwood Mac at the same place about a month later possibly. Supported by the River City People who had had a recent hit with a cover of California Dreaming and with special guests Hall & Oates. I remember it because it was fucking superb.
Now it gets hazy so I can only list who I've seen & where. I really can't remember what year.
The Tansads who were a Wigan based folk/rock group. I saw them twice at Wigan pier and one gig must've been in 1992 because I remember going with a girl from drama college. I was also working at Wigan Pier one time so that must've been 1991 ish.
INXS at the Gmex. This must've been 1991/2 again because I went with a chap called Declan who I was hanging around with when I was about 19/20 years old.
Same again with T'Pau at the Manchester Apollo. I was going out with Mark at the time so I would've been 20 years old.
Somewhere in between those was Rush. Once at... Sheffield? and another time at Birmingham NEC. No idea of timeframe. And also Magnum at Manchester Apollo? Or have I imagined that?
Sheryl Crow at the MEN arena, twice iirc. Acoustics shite and I absolutely hate the MEN for it. It was Shezza though so I couldn't not go. Post millennium I think.
Tori Amos at the Apollo. Three times at least? All post minellium.
Eddi Reader at the Lowry. 3 times possibly? PM. Just remembered I also saw her at one of the Manchester Academy venues in about 1998.
Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra in Edinburgh. I forget the name of the concert hall. My brother was living in Edinburgh at the time. I'm sure we saw him at the Apollo in Manchester as well but I could be wrong.
Duran Duran, Manchester Apollo when it was just Nick Rhodes & Simon LB from the original team. Late 1990s possibly. Then again with full original line up at the MEN arena in about 2005?
The B52s at the Apollo. Early 1990s.
K T Tunstall at the Apollo. Twice. 2007 (definitely) and maybe 2005?
Keane. MEN arena. 2006? or 2007?
Peter Gabriel. MEN arena. 2005/6?
Scissor Sisters. MEN arena. 2007. Deffo.
Saint Etienne, the Ritz in Manch. Um, 2004?
Natalie Imbruglia, Manchester Academy 2004/5 ish?
Natalie Merchant, Manchester Academy... god knows when.
Marcella Detroit & Carlos Guitarlos. Some small place in the middle of London. 2004/5 ish?
One of those Here & Now 80s reunion gigs at the MEN. Howard Jones, Toyah, Go West, ABC etc. ?
The Beautiful South. MEN arena. 1992/3?
Bluehouse I think they were called. A music/comedy group from Australia supported by Tania Bowra. No idea of the venue but it was somewhere in Sydney, Aus 2003?
And now I've lost the will to live. I'm sure there must be loads more. I'll have to troll through my drawers & stuff & see if I can find some of my ticket stubs.
Update: Still jobless. Signed up with an agency who are utterly shite. Attempted to sign on which was an ordeal. Still waiting for a decision on that one.
Off on jollies to LA again in a weeks time. I shouldn't really be going as I can't afford it but its all gone on the credit card so fuck it I'm off.
Went to London a couple of weeks ago for a long weekend. Much fun was had catching up with chums and we did a silly sketch thing for the cabaret. And were watched by Matt 'Little Britain' Lucas who apparently is a friend of a friend. Shat myself but he enjoyed it. (unless he was just being polite). Enjoyed the sketch I mean. Not me shitting myself. Also visted J & N and met the twins who are adorable but demanding. As all kids are of course.
Still no love life. Some things never change eh?
